We need to be on the lookout from everything from hair loss to mood swings to irregular cycles. It’s important to rule out other possible medical issues and to treat some or all of the symptoms we may be experiencing properly so that we can continue to live our daily lives as we should.
To be point blank, menopause isn’t one of the most pleasant things we go through in our lives. When you think about it, we spend the first 20 years of our lives as girls becoming women and getting through puberty. Many of us spend our 20s or 30s having babies. For each baby we carry, we given up a year and nine months of our lives before our bodies return to “normal” (whatever that is). We carry the fetus for 9 months and it takes about 12 months for our bodies to revert back to its former self after we deliver the child. The average family consists of two to three children. That’s four to six years out of our 20s or 30s that our bodies are going through some pretty major changes.
Then we hit our 40s and by the time we’re 45ish, the chance of us experiencing perimenopause is pretty high. In fact, we may have begun experiencing symptoms sooner. We’re still working, taking care of our kids and trying to maintain good relationships. Now we’re entering into a time where our bodies are essentially reversing the effects of puberty. I can guarantee that at this age, you don’t feel ready to be perimenopausal.
No one wants to age. We don’t want to get old and die. Even if we can age gracefully and happily, we still want to live longer healthier lives than our grandparents. Some of us have the reminder of a loved one’s much too early death, which spurs us on to take care of ourselves.
Here’s the way I look at it. If I’m going to spend 41 years of my life having mood swings, possibly depressed, headaches, funky hair growth or hair loss, bloating, cramping, aching, and more, I better live at least 100 years so that I can in good conscious admit that I lived a long and good life and I spent the majority of it uncomfortable. Without a doubt, when I go, I’ll be able to look back and say that I had a great sex life free of vaginal dryness, I was never depressed or forgetful and I was always beautiful inside and out.
This logic applies to all of us. We can’t escape death or age and we certainly can’t avoid all of the obnoxious symptoms of menopause, but we can do whatever we can to stay healthy and active and we can use natural methods of treatment as much as we possibly can. Watch your diet, make sure you stay active and talk to you doctor. More importantly, talk to others who are going through the same things you’re going through. It can all help and you’ll get through it.
