With so many treatment options out there it can be overwhelming to decide on the best option for you. Below I’ll give you some guidelines for completing an effective treatment program which you can create and mold to your own special needs.
Speak to your doctor
The first step to find out if you are perimenopausal or menopausal is to make a visit to your doctor. You may at first think that everything is fine, the symptoms will soon pass and that there is nothing to be worried about.
The truth of the matter is it’s important that we visit our doctor as soon as we start experiencing menopausal symptoms so that he or she can run the appropriate hormonal tests to make sure we don’t have some other underlying medical issue. Once other medical illness have been ruled out, it’s important to speak to your doctor about the symptoms you are experiencing and medical treatment options which may be available to you.
Create your own support system
A strong support system is very important if you are experience particularly difficult or severe symptoms. Not every woman experiences the same symptoms, but some of them can be really bad for a long time. Ignoring them will not make them go away or get better on their own. They probably will eventually lessen, but it can be a long wait and if we want to continue to live our lives as we should be, it’s important to treat the symptoms as soon as we notice them so that we can get back to our normal lives.
A support system can be friends or family. I’m not suggesting you run out and join some menopausal support group, but there online websites, chat rooms and message boards for women who are going through menopause. It can be helpful to hear advice and stories from other women who are going through the same things you are (or who already have gone through them). I don’t know about you, but it always helps me to know that I’m not alone.
Even if your support systems consists of your significant other or a good friend, it’s important to let him or her (or them) know what’s going on so that they can be there for you when you need them. Sometimes just getting it out and talking to a friendly person can be a big help, even if it’s someone who isn’t necessarily going through the same thing.
Don’t forget to be your own support system too! It’s important that you remember to take care of yourself as your body goes through all of these changes, emotional and physical.
