Treatment Options For Menopausal Relief

There are many treatment options available for menopause, both prescribed and natural or organic methods. No matter what route you take, it’s important that you seek the proper treatment for some of the symptoms you may be experiencing so that you can get back to normal.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy is probably the most commonly used method of treatment.  It’s used to replace the estrogen our body normally makes each month.  When we begin perimenopause our body makes less estrogen, which can account for many of our symptoms.

Diet

Diet is extremely important to a healthy body.  Stick to fresh vegetables and fruits, particularly green leafy vegetables.  Eat whole grain breads, pastas, rice and cereal whenever possible and avoid processed foods and fast food.  Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and are staying well hydrated.

Exercise

You should be staying physically active.  If you’re not already, get more active!  Exercising four to five days a week for 30 to 60 minutes a day is going to be the most beneficial to you.  It can help combat fatigue, headaches and water retention.  Not to mention weight loss, since some women have been known to gain weight during menopause.

Herbs

Herbs such as basil, thyme, chamomile, mustard and lavender are great for combating many menopausal symptoms.  They can be drunk in teas or added to foods like pasta, poultry, meats, sauces and sandwiches.

Supplements

There are many herbal supplements which can be helpful to a woman going through menopause.  St. John’s Wart can help ease symptoms of depression.  Other symptoms used to treat menopause are Black Cohosh, Dong Quai, Chaste Tree Berry, Wild Yam, Licorice Root and Sage.

Stress Relief

Stress is a major complaint of women who are going through menopause.  Yoga can be helpful to strengthen our muscles and relax our bodies.  Meditation can be very helpful.  Make sure you get your alone time and relax.  Take a warm bath before bed and drink some chamomile tea.  Avoid alcohol if at all possible.

Walking and getting exercise can be an excellent way to make yourself feel more positive and better in general.  Get hooked up with a friend or family member who also wants to walk and use this time to lose weight or stay fit and you can also use this time to talk about the issues you may be having.  This time can be very therapeutic to the two of you, especially if you manage to find another woman who is also going through menopause.

Sleep

Get a good night’s rest.  Sleep is very important to our health.  Make sure you take steps to properly relax your body before bed and that you are sleeping in a comfortable and peaceful environment.  There are herbal supplements available at your local health food store to help you with sleep naturally if you are experiencing symptoms of insomnia.

If you are experiencing mood swings, know and understand that this can be a normal symptom of menopause.
