Some doctors consider herbal supplements to be alternative treatment options for menopause, but there are other options available too. Acupuncture, massage, Reiki and other treatment options are available to women (and men) who are experiencing symptoms of menopause.
Acupuncture
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is thousands of years old and may seem a little strange to some people, but it’s been tested repeatedly and found to work wonders for healing pain and suffering in many individuals. The concept of Acupuncture revolves around “vital energy”, “energetic balance” and “energetic imbalance”. The Acupuncturist assesses the flow and distribution of “vital energy” within its pathways, known as “meridians” and “channels”.
How does Acupuncture Treat Menopausal Symptoms?
It can be very effective in treating hot flashes, aches, pains, headaches and more. Many menopausal women use acupuncture as a means of benefiting their body, mind and soul.
Where do I go for Acupuncture?
For starters, ask around. More people have acupuncture done than you would think. If you don’t know of anyone who sees an acupuncturist, check online or in the phone book.
Massage
Massage can be very beneficial to the body. It has relaxation qualities as well as pain relief and stress relief. It’s important you find a masseuse that you feel connected to and comfortable with. There’s no point in getting a relaxing massage if you can’t relax because you feel too uncomfortable.
Reiki
Reiki can be done with or without touch. The person getting the Reiki treatment will be totally clothed and can be sitting up or laying down. It’s energy and heat based treatment and it’s believed to cure all sorts of emotional and physical ailments. There are several levels of Reiki practitioners. If you enjoy the Reiki, but feel you need a stronger dose, so to speak, you can actually become a Reiki practitioner yourself. Reiki is wonderful because you not only use it on yourself, but as you use it on others, you are also treating yourself. The energy feels like a heat coming from the hands of the practitioner and it’s believed that the energy will go where it needs to go.
Supplements
Supplements can be very beneficial when used right. Unfortunately they can be difficult to find. You also want to make sure that the supplements you’re taking really are what they say they are and that they are safe to take with other medications or supplements you’re already taking.
Conclusion
Be careful when dabbling with alternative medicine. Not everything is legitimate and not everything works. You will find that many people make claims of miracles when it comes to alternative treatments, however, often times they don’t work this way for everything.
