If you’re the type of person who does well in a group-type situation or atmosphere, you’ll be happy to know that there are many local menopausal group resources available to you.
Connecting with other people who are going through the same thing (or similar) as you are can be very empowering. Not only can it help you, but you may be helping other people! It’s true, you can connect with groups online, but going to a group locally allows you to meet and connect with people who can actually see in person, chat with on the phone and perhaps participate in activities outside of the group, if you choose to.
It’s a lot easier to stick to diet or fitness changes if you have a partner and what better partner to go through these things with than another woman who’s experiencing menopause too? If weight gain is an issue for you, try finding a walking buddy from the menopausal group. Even if you find someone in the group who shares a similar interest with you (like knitting or reading), it can be very beneficial.
Menopausal groups can also help you understand different treatment options and which options are working best for other women, not to mention any side effects or other negatives the treatments may be creating.
If you’re interested in joining a local menopause support group, you can check with your doctor or a woman’s clinic for further information. Sometimes women’s clinics will also be able to help.
If you can’t find a local group, try putting one together yourself! You can post ads on Craigslist.org, in the newspaper, in grocery stores or anywhere else you can find. Many times churches and public centers will offer group meeting space at no charge for groups like these.
