Family Resources

When you read “Family Resources”, you may be wondering what that means. It means your friends and your family members. They can be very beneficial to you when you’re going through changes in life.

First of all, the first person who should be there with you is your significant other, if one exsists.  He or she should go to at least one doctor’s appointment with you so that they have a good understanding of what’s going on with your body.

Women eating and talkingThe people around you are interacting with you on a daily basis and it’s very important that they’re made aware of what’s going on with you if your symptoms are severe so that they know what to expect.  Your doctor can probably offer information to them regarding what to expect and ways he or she can help.

It may also be helpful to talk to your mother or sisters (if you have any), especially if they’ve gone through menopause already.  You’d be surprised how valuable speaking to someone who’s been where you are can be to someone who feels lost and confused about something that’s going on with their health, physically and emotionally.

Another way your family members can be helpful to you is if you are trying different treatment options.  They can help by watching for positive or negative changes which may occur with each treatment.  Make sure they know which treatments you’re using and that they’re comfortable in pointing out changes they see to you.

Keeping a journal can also be helpful for both you and them.  Having your family actively participate in your menopausal treatment working in conjunction with keeping track of your treatment and symptoms in a notebook or journal can be especially helpful to you.  Plus, it’s just fun to look back and see what’s helping.  It also may be valuable information for your doctor.
