There are many reasons as to why menopause can happen late for some women. This can be more of a positive thing as it can reduce the risk of certain medical conditions, even though it raises the risk of breast, uterine and ovarian cancer.
Smoking and some lifestyles can lead to early menopause, so if you’re going through menopause later in life, take it as a compliment. What age your mother went through menopause can also be a determination for what age you go through menopause.
People who stay physically active throughout their entire lives are less likely to experience more serious menopausal symptoms.
Studies have proven that sleep is still an important factor in menopause health. Research has proven that women who get less than six hours of sleep or more than nine hours of sleep a night are more likely to develop ischemic stroke than those who sleep for seven hours.
Personally, six to seven hours of sleep a night seems to be perfect for me. I’ve noticed that even if I am extremely tired and sleep deprived, getting more than seven or eight hours is just too much. I often wake up feeling un-rested and with a headache similar to a hangover.
Getting the right amount of sleep can be very important during menopause. Because depression, anxiety and sadness can occur, it’s extremely important that we’re getting enough sleep so that we are prepared to deal with whatever we have to deal with in order to get through our day.
If you are experiencing hot flashes and night sweats, your sleep may not be deep enough, so make sure you’re allotting for the proper amount of time to be well rested when you wake up in the morning. You may try some herbal sleep aid found in your local health food store to help with sleep.
Diet also plays a big role in menopause and whether or not we experience menopause early, late or right on time. We can certainly control many menopausal symptoms by the dietary choices we make.
If you feel you are experiencing menopause late, visit your doctor. Your doctor can perform hormonal tests on you to make sure that menopause is actually what you’re experiencing. Once everything else has been ruled out, your doctor can prescribe you a treatment regimen which is right for you and your specific symptoms.
It’s important to know that if you are experiencing symptoms of deep depression or anxiety, to seek medical attention. Though this is a common symptom of menopause, not everyone experiences these symptoms and not all are severe even to warrant further treatment.
