Treatment options range from hormone replacement therapy, to herbal supplements and diet and exercise changes. It all depends on the extent of your symptoms and what you’re most comfortable with doing. Stick with what works for you, but talk to your doctor and talk to other women to see what’s working for them. It never hurts to keep an open mind, especially when we’re dealing with discomfort.
Hormone replacement therapy is the most popular menopausal fix. It does, however, come with some side effects. Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, bloating, gas, diarrhea and more. These symptoms should go away after a few days of use and should only be temporary.
Women who are in menopause late are at a higher risk for breast, ovarian and uterine cancers. However, just the fact alone that they are experiencing menopause later may mean that they are in better health than women who experience it early or at the normal time. Most women go through menopause by the age of 55. Menopause is a process which can take years to complete. This is often a misconception on many women’s parts. Perimenopausal symptoms can take anywhere from 10 to 15 years before menopause itself actually begins. Menopause means we have not had our monthly cycle for 12 months.
Not all women need hormone replacement therapy, however, when their bodies go through the hormonal changes because of less production of estrogen, this can come with vaginal bleeding, mood swings, anxiety, headaches, depression and more.
Be sure to see your doctor if you feel you are entering into perimenopause or menopause, especially if you are bleeding in between periods or are having painful sex or bleeding during sexual intercourse. This can sometimes be an indication that something else is medically wrong with you and it’s important that a doctor run the appropriate tests and rule out all other cancers and medical conditions.
Some women are able to change their menopausal symptoms for the better just by changing their food diet and increasing physical activity into their daily routine. It’s important to eat as healthy as possible, especially since your body will be going through other changes, including distributing weight differently and weight gain can be a problem for many women at this time in their life.
You should be living an active lifestyle and getting at least 30 minutes a day of exercise in 5 or more days a week. Your daily activity doesn’t just have to stop there. Opt to park at the back of the parking lot or walk around the mall on your lunch break. In fact, consider walking to the place where you’ll eat your lunch. Remember, taking a lunch to work will be a lot more healthier and sometimes cheaper than eating out every day.
Herbal supplements can be extremely helpful to women who are going through menopause. Taking a more natural approach may mean little to no side effects and some women are able to achieve a reduction in symptoms with just herbs alone.
It’s important for you to research your options and go with the safest option that works best for you.
