If you suspect you’re suffering from symptoms of menopause late in life, you need to have an understanding of what’s going on with your body and make sure that it’s all kosher. It’s important to be aware of the treatment options out there and understand how you can help yourself.
Make an appointment to visit your doctor
Going to the doctor is the first step in combating late menopausal symptoms. True, you can research online and check out some helpful books from the library, but the fact of the matter is, you really need to speak to your doctor and have him or her run the proper tests to make sure that what you’re experiencing is normal and that there isn’t some other underlying medical condition.
You doctor can talk to you about hormone replacement therapy, dietary changes and changes in your physical activity which might be beneficial to your menopausal symptoms. Your symptoms can also be monitored and treatment options can be tweaked and changed accordingly as your needs change.
Medications and hormone replacement therapy
It’s important to know that hormone replacement therapy can be very beneficial to menopause, however, there are some negative side effects and your doctor may or may not think you’re a good candidate for hormone replacement therapy. There are some herbs out there which promise to do the same things that hormone replacement therapy drugs do, so you can check into some of those if you would like to go the natural route.
Make sure you find time to relax
Stress, anxiety and depression can be large complaints for people who are going through menopause, particularly late menopause. Some women experience slight symptoms earlier in life and think they’ve completed menopause. It isn’t until later on when they realize they’ve been suffering from a severe “hot flash” for nearly 14 days that it occurs to them that it had just been wishful thinking on their part.
It’s important to combat your stress levels by making a real attempt to relax. Get a massage, a Reiki treatment or learn to meditate. You do what you have to do in order to relieve your stress levels. Take a hot bath or a hot shower before bed, get into your PJ’s and curl up with a good book or to watch a good movie. Whatever it is that you do to relax, now is the time more than ever, to implement relaxation into your daily routine.
Taking supplements can help
Herbal supplements can be beneficial to many menopausal symptoms individually. Do you research and look for herbs that combat hot flashes, migraines and more. Always do your research and make sure that there won’t be any bad drug interactions with the herbal supplements you’re planning to take. Speak to someone who understands what they are selling if you plan to buy herbs and avoid ordering online because you never know what you’re going to get.
