Stress relief is hugely important to combating the negative effects of early menopause. Stress if a complaint for many menopausal women and letting stress go unfixed can be detrimental to our every day lives.
The benefits of stress relief may seem obvious, but it’s a commonly overlooked factor. Stress can be very important to some of the accelerated feelings we sometimes get when we’re in menopause.
There are various ways to relieve stress naturally. There are supplements you can take, meditation, classes, homeopathic methods and more.
Relieving stress is a positive benefit to menopause because of the extra stress our bodies and emotions are put through when we’re going through this trying time. Women who experience early menopause tend to have more severe symptoms than someone who is going through menopause later in life and possibly more naturally.
There are some very basic things we can do to relieve stress in our everyday lives. They don’t necessarily mean taking a medication, supplement or class, but they do involve some preparation and lifestyle change.
Doing simple things like that preparing for the morning before bed the night before and waking up just 15 minutes earlier in the morning can make us feel more relaxed and calm while we are getting ready to face our day and make a huge difference in how we feel for the rest of the day. I remember when I used to work as a sales person; I used to get to work at least a half an hour early. This allowed me to read a magazine, eat breakfast and prepare my work station so that I was fully prepared before the customers started rushing in. If I didn’t get this few extra minutes in the morning, I would start my day feeling frustrated and sometimes even angry.
Other things we can do are to avoid tight fitting clothes. This can make us feel uncomfortable and anytime I’ve personally been in a situation where I was wearing tight fitting clothes at work, it was almost unbearable because I felt trapped, like I couldn’t leave to go home and those were always the longest days.
One of the biggest complaints (besides the hot flashes and mood swings) is the forgetfulness, so not relying on memory quite as much and writing things down as well as making lots of extra keys may sound extreme, but it can be very helpful.
Slow down in life and learn to say no. A common stressor is taking on too much and not being able to say no when we’ve hit our limit. Set priorities which are right for you and stick to your priorities, not someone else’s.
Use your time wisely and simplify your meals. Making meals in advance if you can find the time, money and space can also be extremely helpful. Roasts and Crockpot dinners will come in handy after a long stressful day at work.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you have (or have access to) a friendly dog or cat, take a minute to snuggle and pet him or her as this can be very beneficial. It’s a proven fact that pets are stress relievers.
