Am I going through menopause at the age of 26?
I'm 26 years old and have not had my period since last July. I spotted just ONE time back around March but nothing since. (it was so light that i barely noticed it at first)
I stopped my birth control last July because i couldn't afford it and for awhile i just assumed that it takes awhile to get regular again after going off the pill.
but it's been almost a year now and i still haven't gotten it. my pap smear was normal and when i expressed my concerns to my OB/GYN she didn't act concerned....
also, i have a majority of the symptoms! The hot flashes (ugh so freaking annoying) and increased anxiety and irritability (but i'm bipolar so i think the irritabilty is related to that) but i have all the classic symptoms of menopause! what the heck?
i have a doctor's appt in july but i was just wondering if i could get some feedback...help!!!

Answers:
You could be experiencing early menopause, commonly known as peri-menopause. I would go ahead with your appointment for a better diagnosis. The fact that you have been off the birth control for about a year could be contributing as well.
There are tests your dr. can order that can tell you if it's early menopause. Ask your dr. to order them so you can know exactly what's going on.
I'm older than you, but still young for menopause. I haven't had a period since January. My dr. was concerned that there might be something else going on, so I had an ultrasound that was inconclusive. Then I went in for an endometrial biopsy. That told him that everything is normal, and I'm actually in menopause.
Don't give up asking your dr. for the tests. If she won't order them get another opinion.
